Prostate Cancer and Red Meat: Are We Surprised?

Prostate cancer is a growing concern for men in the United States. However, it is already known to our population that if your diet does not contain meat, you are much less likely to develop this type of cancer. So is this something men may be able to control? Cutting out animal based food products can decrease your chance of developing certain diseases, and can also reverse them. New research suggests that red meat and processed meat are positively associated with prostate cancer, especially if it is grilled or barbecued to a well done state. This may come as a shocker for some, but it has a very simple solution: cut out your red meats and replace them with plant-based protein sources! Take that cancer.

  1. Well done meat is more associated with prostate cancer? That is a fun fact I did not know. As a cheeseburger fan what is a good BBQ alternative to this classic summer meal?

Not as fun as your cartoon though.

  2. Well cheeseburger mobile, good question! The correlation here is between red meats, specifically ground beef, and cancer. The truth is, it is most beneficial to cut out most red meat from your diet if you want to stay away from these cancer-causing carcinogens. However, it is also dependent on the cooking methods. As the high heat methods can add carcinogens, I would recommend a cooking method with lower heat. You can also try non-red meat burgers, such as salmon burgers or veggie burgers. If these are not for you, then eat your cheeseburgers in moderation and cook with a healthier method! As long as your not eating ground beef on the regular (I would recommend once a week at most), then you should be fine :)

    Hope this helps!
